Doctors & Health Care Professional:

Novoglan is indicated for use in the treatment of uncomplicated phimosis or for preferential loosening of the foreskin. Novoglan Gentle Foreskin Stretcher is designed for use on a tight foreskin. Novoglan should not be used whilst an active infection or inflammation is observed.

If a patient presents with a tight foreskin and either inflammation or infection, then appropriate antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory therapy should be used prior to treatment with Novoglan. A topical steroid may be used to manage inflammation of the foreskin and surrounding tissue.

Data supports 7 days of pre-treatment with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents prior to stretching.

Many clinicians maintain topical steroid use during the first week of a 14 day therapy. Patients should be instructed to use the Novoglan device twice daily where possible (after showering) for a minimum of 15 minutes, however, a period of 30 minutes (without pain or discomfort) is expected to deliver optimal results. That is, the longer the period of stretching the better response.

After 14 days of treatment patients should return for a consultation to review progress. Most patients that have complied with treatment will have a normally functioning foreskin. If minimal or no response is observed, then prescribe a further 14 days of treatment and consider increased

frequency of steroid application if safe to do so, for the remainder of the treatment period. We would recommend referral to a Specialist Clinical Urologist if Phimosis persists after 28 days of treatment.
